RecWell Advisory Board

The purpose of the University Recreation and Wellness Advisory Board (URWAB) is to advise University Recreation and Wellness (URW) on matters relating to the overall operation (programs, facilities, and services) of the department. The Board shall recommend activities which represent the expressed needs of the students, staff and faculty on the Twin Cities campus. Additionally, the Board shall provide administrative review and oversight of the annual Student Services Fees Request and Appropriation. The Director, with recommendation from the Board, shall interpret and establish policy, mission, and goals.

Student organizations are represented with an expectation to review minutes and agenda prior to meetings and convey timely information and updates to their student constituents.  The URWAB members commit to meet on a monthly basis (historically in the mornings on Fridays) where academic and university schedules allow.  The proposed eight (8) meetings take place monthly from September-April). Meetings have been  conducted in an in- person (at the University Recreation and Wellness Center) and Zoom format with current (2021-22) consideration to have a blended (hybrid) format. The meetings last 1 hour and a light breakfast is provided (when in-person).  Student and non-student reps advocate for their constituents while providing updates, concerns and questions brought forward from their respective organizations and in alignment with the work, mission and goals of the department.

Emphasis is placed on financial effectiveness and efficiency with respect to the relationship between student fee funding and self-generated income. Reps are asked to attend all meetings and prepare through reading of minutes and sharing of information to and from their represented stakeholders. Proxy reps for meetings unable to attend are requested. While not a requirement of service to the URWAB, reps who are active members of URW programs and facilities are preferred.
