The Learn to Swim Program provides individuals with a solid foundation of water safety knowledge and skills. Instructors are University of Minnesota Students that are certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED. The program features a variety of knowledgeable and responsible instructors who create the fun and excitement of our swim lessons.

Registration Information & Tips

  • We will not accept over the phone registrations. If you wish to register in person, please visit our Minneapolis or St.Paul location. 
  • Due to the amount of phone calls and emails on registration day, we will be answering all phone calls and emails in the order received. 
  • We recommend that you add your dependents to your profile prior to registration day. To see our step by step instructions on how to add a dependent, please view our website page. 
  • Once you are ready to check out, you will be redirected to an external page to complete your transaction. Do not hit the back button or refresh button. This will interrupt the check out process and may result in losing your spot in line or restarting the enrollment process. 
  • Due to increased user activity on registration day our website may run slower than usual. We have been in communication with our Fusion representatives to increase network speed on registration day. 
  • You will be locked out of your account for 5 minutes (300 seconds) if your username or password attempts fail more than three times. If you have forgotten your username or password, you will need to select the "click here if you are having trouble signing in". 

 

     1. Q: Why am I getting locked out of my account on Shoprecwell.umn.edu?

         A: If you are getting an error message while trying to log in to your account select the "click here if you are having trouble signing in" button. You will be directed to an account recovery page that will instruct you to use your account email to recover your username or password. After hitting submit, an email will be sent to you to recover your login information. If you are new to Learn to Swim since January 1st, 2019, we have updated our registration software! If you have not created a new login with shoprecwell.umn.edu you can do so by selecting the "sign up" button on the top right corner of the screen or "Sign up here if you do not have a local account". Previous accounts form our ActiveNet Software will not work. Once you submit your account registration an email will be sent to your preferred email with your account confirmation. After confirming your account, you will be redirected to sign in to your account to enroll into our Learn to Swim classes.

    2. Q: Why am I getting an error message about age restrictions while trying to enroll into a class?

        A: If an error message pops up on your screen with an age restriction prompt this is because that specific level has an age restriction. To add a dependent to your profile, you will need to go into your profile settings and select "Add a new dependent". Once the dependent is added to your profile you will be able to select the class and enroll your dependent into your desired swim level. Please view our level descriptions to further read about our age restrictions. If a participant does not meet the age criteria for a level and you believe that they are able to meet the required skills for the level you will need approval from the Coordinator of Aquatics prior to registration.

    3.  Q: Can I register over the phone?

         A: Learn to Swim will not accept registrations over the phone. If you wish to register in person, you may stop at the front desk at our Minneapolis or St.Paul location. 

   4.  Q: Why am I receiving an error message of "pending payment authorization"?

       A: Enrollment has not been completed if you received this message. To complete enrollment, you will need to select the shopping cart and finish the transaction. If you have hit the refresh or back button, this has put a pending hold on your enrollment and will unlock after 20 minutes. 

   5.  Q: Why did the class I wanted show as available, but showed that it was full once I went to check out?

       A:  Our registration program updates instantaneously. During enrollment, classe spots will be "taken" while in line for checkout. Due to heavy traffic and not refreshing a page, a class may appear to have open spots before checking out.

Private & Semi-Private Registration

Private lessons are a great way to receive personalized instruction. Individual classes allow the instructor to focus on specific skills based on each participant's needs. Private lessons are often a popular choice for adults and families with busy schedules. To register for private lesson, please fill out the Private/Semi-Private Registration Form. Once the form is recieved, you will recieve a confirmation email from the Coordinator of Aquatics within 48 hours. 

Private Swim Lesson Policies & Guidelines

  • Participants must have confirmation from a Learn to Swim Instructor to purchase lessons. Lessons must be purchased before the first lesson begins. Lessons may be purchased online or at the front desk.
  • After the initial purchase, clients have 120 days to complete their lessons. If lessons are not completed in the time frame the lessons will be canceled at no refund to the client.
  • If a participant must cancel a lesson, please give the instructor at least 24 hours notice. If a 24 hours notice is not given, the lessons will be forfeited. 
  • Should a participant be late for a lesson, the lesson will still end at the designated time. Lessons will be canceled 15 minutes after the designated time and the lessons will be forfeited.
  • Private swim lesson participants are not permitted to use the pools or other facilities outside of scheduled lessons.
  • All private lessons will be held in conjunction with informal recreation. Pool space is not reserved solely for private swim lessons.
  • We ask that all parents/guardians stay on deck during the duration of private swim lessons.

If you need further assistance, email the LTS office or call the office at (612) 625-3794. The lessons are then individually arranged with the instructor and can be held at either the St. Paul or Minneapolis campus. These classes are available to all and are generally 30 minutes in length.

Private Lessons may be purchase online or at the front desk of St. Paul Gym, or the University Recreation Center.
