Diverse Formats and Small Class Sizes

Are you looking for individual attention in a group setting? Programs accommodate a broad range of participants from beginners to advanced.

Participants must have a valid RecWell Membership to enroll in classes. You can purchase a membership at shoprecwell.umn.edu.

Offerings include:

Boxing Fusion

Boxing Fusion

Designed to teach proper boxing and kickboxing technique to participants at any skill level, this 8-week class will cover everything from basic striking to advanced footwork and defensive strategy.

  • You will work with certified trainers in a small group setting two times per week for 8 weeks.
  • Class will include a conditioning component designed to strengthen boxing/kickboxing skills.

Class meets Participants MUST purchase their own gloves and wraps. This allows for individual practicing outside of the class and for sanitary purposes.

Glove and Wrap recommendations: Pair of Boxing Gloves (Title or Everlast brand) = $14 Pair of Everlast Professional Hand Wraps = $5 For questions regarding mits and wraps, you may contact Olivia Wicker @ wick0294@umn.edu.

10 Week Weight Loss

10 Week Weight Loss

10 Week Weight Loss will help you in creating healthier habits by learning how the body functions and responds to various exercise.

  • Meet for 60 minutes, three times per week in a small group format to train with a certified personal trainer.
  • Learn how to make improvements in nutrition habits and increase awareness of diet through online nutrition tracking.
  • Measure changes in body fat and fat-free mass through pre-program, mid-program, and post-program BodPod assessments.

Women and Weights 1

Women and Weights 1

Led by two certified personal trainers, Women & Weights 1 teaches the fundamentals of strength training in a comfortable and inclusive environment for all individuals identifying themselves as females. Through the development of proper form and movements, women will build the confidence to incorporate various exercises into their own strength training programs.

  • Two one-hour sessions per week for eight weeks.
  • 15 minutes of strength training education followed by a 45-minute workout.
  • Explanations and demonstrations of the various strength training movements.
  • Instruction on how to build a basic strength training program.
  • Incorporation of a variety of resistance equipment including machines, free weights, and barbells.

Women and Weights 2

Women and Weights 2

Led by a certified personal trainer, Women and Weights 2 focuses on advanced weight training for women. Participants should have taken Women and Weights I or be at an intermediate level of strength training before taking this class. 

  • Two one-hour sessions per week for eight weeks.
  • 15-minutes of advanced strength training education followed by a 45-minute workout.
  • Explanations and demonstrations of the various strength training and power lifting movements.
  • Instruction on how to build an advanced strength training program.
  • Nutrition education on how to eat for advanced strength training.

Olympic Weight Lifting

Olympic Weight Lifting

You will be taught proper technique on how to execute a clean-and-jerk and snatch movement with a certified personal trainer. This is recommended for beginner and intermediate participants.

  • Two one-hour sessions per week for 8 weeks.
  • 10-15 minute warm up.
  • 45-minute workout.
  • Instructions on how to progress lifts.
  • Incorporation of accessory lifts to assist with form.
