Lifeguard Training

Lifeguard Training

All RecWell Lifeguards must be certified through the American Red Cross Lifeguard Program. We offer both Red Cross Lifeguard Review courses for those already certified and the full Red Cross Lifeguard Certification course. 


Minimum age: 15 years; Swim 300 yards continuously; Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs; Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds by starting in the water, swimming 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, exit the water without using steps or a ladder.

Class Description: 

Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years. 

Lifeguard Certification Course  

This course is for those interested in becoming certified as a lifeguard for the first time. The class is approximately 24 hours spread out over multiple days and includes an online blended learning portion to be done prior to the class start date. 
Cost for Rec-Well Employees - $100.00
Cost for Non-RecWell Employees - $200.00
$100 Refund will be given to class participants who are hired as RecWell Lifeguards after becoming certified! 

Lifeguard Review Course

All participants must be currently certified or within 30 days of their certification expiration date. The course takes approximately 6-8 hours and includes an online blended learning portion to be done prior to the class start date. 
Cost for RecWell Employees - $37.00
Cost for Non-RecWell Employees - $100.00

CPR/AED and First Aid Training

CPR/AED and First Aid Training

We offer CPR/AED and First Aid training through American Red Cross. All classes last up to four hours and cover Adult and Child CPR/SFA.

Classes are offered every month, and the calendar will be updated by the close of the current month for next month.

Please inquire about registering for a certification course at least 5 days in advance. A reply will be sent back within 48 hours

CPR and First Aid training is required for all RecWell employees.

Bloodborne Pathogen Training

Bloodborne Pathogen Training

All students and Staff are required to complete the Bloodborne Pathogens Annual OSHA Requirement.

This online module is required for anyone who may come into contact with human blood, BSL2 and BSL3 pathogens, and other potentially infectious materials. 

Complete these training modules via Training Hub. Click on Course Catalog and enter the course number in the Keyword field.

Bloodborne Pathogens Annual OSHA Requirement (UHS110)

Deadline - Prior to MS1 fall semester

Administered by: University Health and Safety

This course is required annually (once a year) if your job may expose you to bloodborne pathogens and you are required to fulfill the federal OSHA requirement. The topics covered in this training will help you reduce your risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens in the workplace.

Personal Training Program

Personal Training Program

The ACE (American Council on Exercise) Personal Trainer Exam Review program is designed to help students prepare for the ACE Personal Trainer Certification Exam. Based on the ACE Personal Trainer Manual, this program will help students master the necessary information and theories of exercise science for personal training.

  • Classes start 1/21/2020
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Time 4:00pm - 5:30pm
  • No classes over Spring Break
  • Location Recreation and Wellness Center MP7
  • This class will meet 2 days per week in a lecture-style format. Towards the end, there will be more hands-on training that will be covered on the ACE National Certification Exam.
  • You do not need to be a Kinesiology major in order to take this course. This course will prepare everyone to become a certified personal trainer, regardless of your academic background.
  • This course is not approved for academic credit. Therefore, attendance is optional. It is assumed you are interested in this profession and plan to commit the necessary attention.
