Fee-Paying Students — You're Already A Member!

All University of Minnesota students paying the Student Services Fee have automatic membership. A valid U Card gets you to access to various RecWell facilities.

Non-Fee Paying Students*

Students at the University of Minnesota not paying the Student Services Fee need to purchase a membership at the rates below. 

*Students not enrolled in summer courses will have their RecWell membership expire after May 15, 2026. To maintain access to RecWell facilities, a summer membership is required. 

Graduate Assistants on the Graduate Assistant Health Plan who are not paying the Student Services Fees can receive an $80 discount on a gym membership each semester at RecWell. Visit Member Services at the University Recreation and Wellness Center - Minneapolis campus to update or start your membership, and let them know you would like the Boynton discounted rate. The gym discount program is structured so the discount is taken off upfront.

Non-Fee Paying Students — Purchase a Student Membership

Membership provides access to the following University Recreation and Wellness Facilities: URWC, SPG, Fieldhouse, Jean K. Freeman Aquatics Center, and URW Sports Field Complex.

Faculty and staff members at the University of Minnesota are eligible to purchase a RecWell membership. Retirees are eligible to purchase non-payroll deduction memberships at the Faculty/Staff Rate.

Purchase A Faculty/Staff Membership

Membership provides access to the following University Recreation and Wellness Facilities: URWC, SPG, Fieldhouse, Jean K. Freeman Aquatics Center, and URW Sports Field Complex.

_{Payroll Deductions are taken biweekly for 26 pay periods; Payroll Deduction memberships must be purchased in-person at the Members Service Desk of the University Recreation and Wellness Center or the St. Paul Gym.}

_{Please note that Aramark, MPhysicians (University of Minnesota Physicians), Visiting Scholars, Post Doctorate Fellows, retirees, and non-Twin Cities location employees are not eligible for payroll deduction memberships.}

Alumni

Graduates of any University of Minnesota campus are eligible to purchase a membership. Alumni must provide a copy of their diploma or unofficial transcript at time of initial enrollment to verify status.

Affiliates

Affiliates include UMMC Fairview, UMN Physicians, Aramark, French Meadow, St. Paul Campus Forestry Department, USDA, North Central Research Station, and MN Crop Improvement Association.  Affiliates must present photo ID and most current pay stub for verification at the time of membership purchase or renewal.

Alumni/ University Affiliates

Community Members

Community memberships are available at the St. Paul Gym for individuals age 18 or older not affiliated with the University of Minnesota. This membership is valid only at the St. Paul Gym and does not offer any sponsoring membership or family day privileges.

St. Paul Community

Membership provides access to the St. Paul Gym only.

A current RecWell member can act as a sponsor for one adult (18 years or older). A sponsored member is charged the same fee as any member. Please note that a sponsored membership may not exceed the duration of the sponsor's membership and their membership must remain active to stay eligible. Visit the member service desk with the person you want to sponsor to get set up. Sponsored member will need to bring a photo ID.

Rates

Guest Pass Policy

• Members of University Recreation and Wellness (URW) may bring one (1) guest into the facilities by purchasing a Guest Pass
• Children 6 and older require a Guest Pass, while children 5 and under are admitted free; limit two children per parent
• Each member is allowed to bring two (2) paying guests on weekends, during breaks and summer session
• Guests must present a photo ID
• All Guests must enter and leave with their host
• The host is responsible for the conduct and actions of their guest
• Improper conduct by a guest can affect the current and future eligibility of the host
• Sponsored Members do not have guest privileges

UMN Faculty and Staff can use RecWell facilities for free on the 3rd Thursday of every month. This access includes RecWell facilities, free open climbing (Mpls only), free Group Fitness classes, and a free daily locker. Bring your U Card to the Member Service Desk at the University Recreation and Wellness Center or the St. Paul Gym when checking in.
