Climbing + Bouldering

Climbing Gym Hours

Know Before You Go

  • No prior climbing experience is needed to use the gym
  • First time users will receive an orientation and training that covers all of the key things you need to know to climb at the URWC Gym
  • Climbers may bring their own climbing equipment, but for those that need it, we provide climbing shoes and harnesses at no additional cost
  • Our staff are always happy to answer your questions - just ask!
  • If you have advice (beta, in climbing lingo) about how to climb a route you see another climber attempting, ask them if they want the beta first.
  • There's no one "right" way to climb - as the climber Alex Lowe said, "the best climber in the world is the one having the most fun."

Crush-O-Lantern Climbing Competition (10/29)

Join us again this fall for our annual Halloween-themed Bouldering Competition!  Climbers compete not only for the highest overall points by completing freshly set boulder problems, but also for the honor of best individual and best partner costume.  This event is your opportunity to hang out and have fun with our community of climbers on Campus.  There are boulder problems of all difficulties and competitor brackets for beginner, intermediate, and advanced climbers - this event is for everyone.  The event is free, but we ask that you register in advance.

The competition will follow a modified flash format with an onsite finals round.  The highest point value will be awarded for a flash of a boulder (climbing it successfully on the first attempt).  A lower point value will be awarded for a successful send on additional attempts.  A competitor's five highest scores will be added together for the total score. The top 5 men and top 5 women climbers will advance to an onsite finals round where they will have 5 minutes to attempt a boulder that gets progressively harder with each move which they have not seen before.  The climber who makes it furthest on the boulder will be the overall winner.  All competitors are encouraged to stick around as spectators for the finals.
